It started with Mexican lowriders when they started poppin the bead when hydraulics hit the scene. Believe it or not, if you put 50-60psi in one of those, you'll never get one to break the bead. Eventually the style hit the east coast with the Puerto-Ricans but they weren't into the big american cars. The Corolla, the 510, and the RX were the cars of choice because that's what they drag race in the home land. Since the Corolla obviously had two major followings, you're going to see some cross-breeding. It also makes for one hell of a fat-lipped wheel with minimal body-work.
