When Terrell Owens broke down and cried after Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants, it simply underlined what an unstable collection of bozos they have down there. There’s nothing specifically wrong with crying, mind you. But in the context of everything else, it seems bizarre.
Yes, Tony Romo had every right in the world to jet to Mexico with Jessica Simpson, especially since the coach told everyone to get away from football for a few days. But given how limply the Cowboys finished the season, and how much Romo was criticized for stinking up the stadium with Simpson in attendance, it might have been wiser if he locked himself in the film room and studied.
Jerry Jones helped to hasten the departure of Bill Parcells. Now he has the anti-Parcells in Wade Phillips, a career defensive coordinator ill-suited to the leadership duties required of a head coach. The Cowboys finished soft, and you could see on Jones’ face after the final seconds ticked away Sunday that he’s so furious that perhaps heads will roll – including that of Phillips.
It’s nice to be America’s Team, with all the glamour and attention that comes with that designation. But when things go awry, it’s like being Britney Spears’ entourage. There’s just no fixing the damage to the image."
