If you don't give a shit about backward compatibilty, the 40gb is a cheaper version, but lacks 2 USb ports and the memory card reader. If you wait a little bit they just finished the 45nm chip (current ones are 90nm) so when they release it in the PS3 it will run cooler and use less power.. all thoughts to consider.
