I completely agree. Even if you were able to get more out of them for a starting salary, they will make up for it come appraisal time. The same can be said the opposite way as well, if they feel they have underpaid you for the job you perform, they will compensate for that come appraisal time.

Tkae the offer they gave you. $2k more a year is like 20 bucks a week after taxes, its not worth all this effort you are putting in, when in the end the company will win.
