NFL Wild Card Predictions

AFC

Chiefs @ Colts

It would be easy to say the Colts will win at home in the first round, but they won't. A soft run defense will cost the Colts dearly when they meet up with one of the NFL's top backs in Larry Johnson. The Colts have been gashed this season by every running game they've come across. Wk. 17 Ronnie Brown 115 yards, Wk. 16 Ron Dayne just running through them, ect. ect...In what will probably be predicted to be a high scoring affair I see Kansas City control the clock on the ground and grinding out a win. Look for Tony Gonzalez to open up the outsides for Dante Hall and Eddie Kennison to find a couple of big plays. Indy will have their opportunities but their lack of a solid ground game will allow KC to sit back and make Manning make throws to Wayne, Harrison, and his other targets in heavy coverage.

Chiefs 24 Colts 17

Jets @ Patriots

Its very difficult to predict a game when the teams are division rivals who have split the season series at 1 a piece. However I believe the Patriots are getting healthy at the right time of the season for a change and Moroney playing at full strength after being dinged up the past few games will make for a fresher Dillon as he won't have to handle as many carries. Brady will be opportunistic in picking apart the Jets secondary with play action passes. The Jets run game anchored by rookie Washington and the vet Kevan Barlow will struggle against the Pats front 7 and New England will make Chad Pennington try to beat them over the top. Look for Pennington to throw 2 or 3 int's in this game as the Pats will be applying pressure out of their 3-4.

Jets 10 Patriots 21

NFC

Cowboys @ Seahawks

Both teams stumbled down the stretch and it will be interesting to see who shows up for this game. Dallas, by dropping their game to Detroit (go Lions!), avoided going to Philadelphia and won a trip to the greater northwest. I believe the only team this helps however is the Giants as the trip across country is much more devistating than from TX to WA. Back to the ballgame. Dallas MUST come out and establish TO early. If the Cowboys can find Owens on underneath routes and allow him to run after the catch it will force the Seahawks to focus on him and open up running room for Jones and Barber. Seattle, on the other hand, will look to set the tone with the running game with reigning MVP Shawn Alexander. Alexander who missed most of the regular season with a fracture in his foot is finally back to 100% but faces a tall task is going up against a very fast Cowboys defense. Seattle will have to use its deep receiving corps and move the ball around, trying to avoid Dallas CB Terrence Newman. Seattle has the talent to do so with Branch, Jackson, Stevens, Alexander, and co. but has to give Hasslebeck time. I think we'll see a defensive struggle as both teams will play the field position game. This game is a coin flip and I think whoever avoids making the mistakes will come out on top. Seattle, with its experience, should be that team.

Cowboys 20 Seahawks 21

Giants @ Eagles

There is no team in the NFC playing better football coming into the playoffs than the Eagles. Jeff Garcia has rejouvinated the Eagles team and led them to a 10-6 record and the NFC East crown. Philly defeated NY just 2 weeks ago and had them beat earlier in the season until a monumental 4th quarter collapse. This game though will be decided by Eli Manning. The Giants will use Tiki Barber early and often to try to bring the Eagles safeties to the line of scrimmage. If Manning gets protection and makes good reads I believe he'll be able to exploit the Eagles aggressive defense and find Shockey and Burress for a couple of big plays. The Giants had to win @ Washington in wk. 17 to make the playoffs and I believe they'll show up in Philadelphia with Tiki looking to carry his team to the divisional playoffs. Look for a healthy Michael Strahan to have an impact on this game (remember he was injured last time these teams played).

Giants 17 Eagles 13
