you will def increase the wear and tear by leaving them locked in, plus maybe see some gas mileage decrease because you are turning all the axles. basically if you're driving around in the snow you can go in and out of 4x4 without having to turn the hubs everytime. i actually modified my front hubs to live front axles cause the auto locking ones suck balls, which is pretty much how the newer ones come anyways. now lock it in 4 low and try to turn on dry pavement
