You're plan is pretty much fine, everything should work out. The only thing I saw that caught my eye was the 800 grit sanding step. 800 grit is quite excessive, especially for the paint you're using. Save yourself some time and struggle and drop down to 600. Normal basecoat will cover 400 grit marks, even with a little shrink over time. 600 should be more than enough for caliper paints.
On another note, if you ever plan on painting these again, don't use duplicolor. That shit has to be blasted or chemical stripped off before you even think about coating over it.
