you can get a VGA to component cable, but then you will not be getting a digital signal.

1080i Component does looks amazing. My friend brought his ps3 over and all I had to hook it up was the component cables from my ps2 and I was very impressed, but it will not be as good as a true digital signal

Yeah I have DVI in on my current TV. DVI is better than HDMI anyways, its a true digital video-only signal. Mainly used with higher end monitors, but everything's going hdmi anyways. No real difference in quality between DVI and hdmi.

I need to do some better testing of 1080 footage component vs hdmi before I can make a good argument either way, but I'm sure hdmi is the better way to go.
