"Happy" lambda is dependent on many factors, pre-ignition being one of them and the type of fuel being another.
If you really want to shit yourselves, investigate the lean-burn direct injected engines that europe currently has available. The AFR's they're running are rather ridiculous, but again, design influences capability.
