I second the ignition system theories. Put good plugs/wires onboard, test drive it. See if your SES light pops up. If it still skips, go scan it at a local advance auto or something. See if you're registering a misfire code and which cylinder's causing the problem. It'll register misfires without setting the dash light. It could be something a little more involved like a faulty coil/module. If it's a general misfire on all cylinders, I'd suspect something such as a dirty/faulty MAF or an EGR starting to die.
