GMX's 03 Evo VIII

Went to see our very own GranMassaX and his Evo VIII this evening. Vehicle was tuned by "Shop X" a couple years ago and he had asked me to stop by and look at the tune sometime. THANK GOD we were able to get together. I downloaded his map and had a good look through everything...it (in my eyes) was a catastrophy waiting to happen. 23 degrees of timing at peak tq, fuel in the 9's throughout the range of the map (would imagine making car run mid 10's afr, WAY too rich for an Evo). We headed to GMX's personal closed circuit course which worked out well for logging 3rd gear pulls. First pull...OMG! Right off the rip...11-13-17-17-17-20!!! <-KNOCK @ 3600-3800-4000-4200-4400-4600! Thank god he's been driving the car like a 16 year old girl with a feather foot since he had gotten the tune or I can only imagine what could've happen. Spent quite a bit of time sorting through and rebuilding timing/fuel tables, adjusting a few things to accomodate for his cams, and went back to logging. After a few passes and a couple more tweaks, EGT's were reading nice @ WOT (only way to guess at his fuel, as he doesn't have a wideband....but every Defi gauge known to man...baller) and at peak torque on the pulls he was making 0/1 count(s) of knock. Glad that's sorted out. I'd like to see what it makes on a dyno now in comparison to what it made when he had it tuned @ "Shop X". I'd imagine he was losing a LOT of power due to the knock/car pulling loads of timing.

Thank you for the beer
