2005 Frankfurt Motor Show: Jeep Compass Photo Gallery
Sophisticated toughness
Photography by the Manufacturer
Truck Trend, September 2005
The second of the revolutionary concept models out at this show is the Jeep Compass, also sharing the same platform as the Jeep Patriot. Clearly going after the rally sport crowd, Jeep is looking to the Compass to give the Evo IX and WRX Sti a run for their money. Still sporting the seven-slot grille, Jeep designers have gone for sophisticated rally toughness, rather than trail-rated 4x4 competence. Still, Jeep assures us that this will be the most capable Jeep in its class, with tractive ability at all four wheels that none of its competitors can match. The Compass will run the same 2.4-liter I-4 from the Patriot (and Caliber), but you can expect some power massaging beyond the estimated 170 horsepower predicted for the optional sport package. The second-generation continuously variable transmission is also in the concept Compass, as will be -- we’re guessing -- a six-speed manual transmission. This is a completely new segment for Jeep and will be an important test as to whether buyers are interested in a Jeep vehicle that doesn’t have some type of trail-rated capabilities. We’re told to look for the sporty car-based rally star to compete with Toyota’s Scions, the Pontiac Vibe, and Mazda 3, with a considerable price advantage.

yep, thats why I like it, Thats why i'll buy it.
AWD, reliability of a Jeep, Don't look too swoopy, well priced and has what I want <good mileage and it's going to be a 6 speed>
Of course. I will still need to see it in person, as well as drive it. I thought the PT cruisers looked cute when they came out, but it felt like I was sitting on an egg crate

others would argue that they don't have front wheel drive as well.
I can deal with the cuts on the wheels
as for reliability, I have a cherokee with 160,000 miles, not a tick or a knock, towed my Charger and a 1000lbs trailer from PA to home without a problem, My wrangler has 120,000 and runs like the day it was made.
Both start every day and run lik ea bear

well , now that i am in the market for a new "auto" i have been looking into the jeep wrangler unlimited rubicon, wow mouth full, in my opinion it looks like a bmw x3 with some mods, but all in all sick ass jeep, but to me jeep has always been the originator of the off-road market, so when they start producing this i dont think it would sell that rapidly, but hey thats my opinion

I like the Rubicon's, but I am not a fan of the Unlimited's. I think it looks pretty gay with the extended rear. (I am sure it helps with the ride though)
I would go for a normal Rubicon if I were you, I think both the approach angle and departure angles are much better on them.

I hope you have money for gas
BTW: you may want to wait a year on the wrangler or you'll kick yourself in the ass, The wrangler is undergoing some changes for the next modle year. Includeing
V8 Option
loosing the inline 6 and gaining the V6
beter suspention
Lower roof, and it looks like a slight difference in the window for less wind resistance.
