the atom to start switching motors

ariel atom which most of you know from top gear is now being sold in america and can be made to be completely streetable... well with them now making them for the US the type R s/c engine that they use to power it is starting to become hard to come by... so they have decided to start offering nother engine choice.. yes thats right the atom is now going to also be powered by the LSJ engine which is also in the cobalts and the redlines.. ariel has said that they have had a long history with GM and plan on using the engine more and mroe once the get componets to tune it.. but as they sell the engine now they have it upto 300 whp.. which is quite a lot for the stock ECU with no piggyback

anyway i heard about this over on the redline forums and this once again shows the potential of the engine... plus ariel told us they might start crating the engines to sell to us in stages... stage 1 being 300 hp and up from their... good news for me since the power for the engiens has been held back by Gm quite a bit... once they give us the abilty to tune it's gunna be fu to see the numbers made by the engine

They offered them with both engines as options, and all the best testing they've done was with the Honda motor. I've looked into this many times, I'm a huge fan of the car. 300whp does not show much about an engine's potential in all honesty. It's not like it's all-motor horespower. It's still supercharged. Honda's ECU for the K-Series motor has to be reflashed after simple bolt-ons like an intake and cat-back.

yes i know they still offer both... which is why i said with them having to fill more orders now it's hard to keep coming up with type r motors.. plus the reason it shows potential is b/c all they did to get that was besides exhaust and intake was bigger injectors and a smaller pully and thats it.. which for the engine is pretty impressive... since it doesn't have any reflash and is on the stock ECU with the stock fuel maps... not bad for an engine in a saturn

For those mods on a factory-forced induction vehicle, it doesn't seem like a lot of power. 300bhp is around 250-260whp give or take. EVO's and STi's are close to that stock, and with an intake, turboback, and pulleys, they are usually in the upper 200-low 300whp range.

no when i say hp i'm saying WHP... that means it's gunna be 330ish bhp... so yes it's a big deal on 15psi and 42 lbs injectors when thats all thats done and your getting numbers like that... it takes a little more to get that out of the one in the ss and redline due to the intake not being in such a perfect spot and the exhaust being more restrictive plus the water intercooler isn't being cooled by the air as well
