Check out http://www.adirondackjeeps.com/forums/index.php for info on one of my favorite local club. Ive been on a couple winter trail rides with them and they are a good group.

Couple things I noticed:

1) tow hooks are needed... the XJ (cherokee) has no tow points on it
2) Jeeps arent meant to be jumped... especially unibody jeeps

You want some real 4 wheeling you have to have a ton of gear... not mounted to the truck, but tools, of course recovery equipment.

Local "trails" I like... Old Florida Road in West Adams Massachusetts... Not for the jeeps in the video (see my avitar) but it is some of the best crawling for a moderate experience / moderate built truck.
there is a huge piece of property in east greenbush right off of 90 which has a ton of trails on it there is a guy Chris (has a black YJ) who is local on the adirondack jeeper forum who knows exactly how to get there
Up Rt 2 about 4 miles outside (east) of troy (before 278) you cross a stream and there are some powerlines off to your left. There is a tough entrance there, some pretty rough entry trails but once you are in there is a nice stream crossing, nice hill climb and the trek back. The holes are very deep (ala 4 to 5 feet) !!! consider yourself warned! Across the street from the stream the power lines cross rt 2 and go up a steep hill. Again some nice mudding along the lines, noone bothers you, but some of the holes are deep enough to eat fullsize trucks on 44s so be careful.

www.paragonap.com if youre up for a roadtrip
From Old Florida Road

a couple places i like: behind glen sander's masion along the mohawk....its just sloppy as hell. also, lake desolation. that has both mud and some pretty good rock crawling

here's mine at the mohawk place:

here's a deuce and a half that got stuck 3 times, and snapped his 2 ton winch cable

now i'm stuck in his ruts:
