new 2008 cobalt ss turbo final press release

so this came out today and a lot of the LSJ commuity has been waiting to hear about this.. no word yet as to if the astra will get the same powertrain but this is sharing the same set up as the new HHR ss

GM 2007 SEMA

a few of the cliff notes from the article include
-taller final drive gear
-260 hp direct injection trubo charged/ intercooled engine
-"no lift shit" launch control for when your at the track (can be turned on an off by the driver)
-wider tires (225/40 compared to the old style 215/40)
-.9g on the skid pad
-front brembo brakes
-rear vented rotors
-bigger front and rear sway bars
-5.7 0-60 time
-around the "ring" in 8:22.85 minutes (new class record)

i'm looking forward to this coming out as most of it should be bolt on the my cars (brembo's would be nice).. depending on how this powertrain works out this might be the next car for me

except this srt-4 wanna be comes with duramax injectors and a fuel pressure regulator running around 2,200 psi of fuel pressure... plus i'm interested to see how the "no-lift-shift" mode works and holds up

I'll be very interested to see how this car performs once it's out on the streets. Like Brew said it will be cool to see some of the new parts the car will offer and will hopefully bolt up to the current Cobalt/G5/Redlines. The LNF engine is supposed to be great so it will be interesting to see how they perform once people start upgrading them. The biggest issue I have with the car is it's still FWD. I know that wasn't planned to be changed but i've learned high HP and FWD are just pretty worthless

Too bad it'll probably never happen.. Since it's still considered an economy car

It's already happened man. The SS/TC is confirmed for the second half of the 2008 model year. The SS / Redline / GXP platforms for GM have no concern about the economy aspect of the market. They are designed for the enthusiests and the base models are there for economy. I'll definately go check them out and go for a test drive
