Project for Saturday v. VW

Looks like Im gonna have a fun day with the Golf on Saturday...
-Front brakes (new rotors, new pads)
-Rear brakes (new drums, shoes, wheel bearings, and wheel cylinders)
-Ebrake Cables (both new)
-Valve cover gasket (powdercoating upper intake manifold and valve cover while they are off)
-and the hardest part... new wipers.. lol

Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze her into my dad's garage otherwise I'll have to clean out the garage first... yuck!

I'm not trying to be an ass but at the same time I am: Why did you create a thread about basic maintenance? Mods man, MODS! I want to see some Wilwoods and a hydraulic ebrake!

B/c i felt like it damnit. I am not modding shit on this car until I give it atleast the winter test to make sure it will be a car that will last me. I will hopefully be getting rid of my truck in the Spring (if I can get what I owe on it) and then I will start with fixing this up. Starting with the body. But this was exciting for me b/c I have had no ebrake due to a partially seized rear tire (which also makes for interesting driving in slick conditions BTW). This will finally fix everythin on the car that affects its driving. Hopefully everything else will stay running strong so I can be rid of the truck and start modding this.

Kenny don't worry about it Cavimike is retarded, at least you are contributing to the site which we all know its needs because it is pretty slow on here lately, and like Centola said post up pics of work in progress or even do a write up if you have time, even if it is regular maintenance its still good info for the site!

Oh and if you need help let me know, hopefully me and Drew will be finishing my winter beater tonight and I will need you to install the remote start whenever, I figure you can do it up here in my garage so you're not freezing your sack off!

hydraulic ebrake and wilwoods on a rusty golf winter beater that's worth less than your shirt. The man has other worthy project vehicles. I think he has a different idea of where to invest his money than you do.

yea... the majority of my money is going to debts right now... the jeep is going to be sitting in the garage for a while, the truck will hopefully be getting sold this spring, and if I ever get off my lazy ass I'll eventually put the Suzuki back together and probably keep that. Then it will just be the Golf and the R6 since neither of them are on the books. Once I get a house with a real garage, then I can start back onto either the Golf or hopefully getting the jeep done. But that will probably be a while down the road.

Started taking pics and what not, but it was getting cold, and I was feeling like shit so I just worked on gettign it done. It wasnt the easiest brake job I've done, but it wasnt the hardest either. Never replaced the wheel cylinders b/c the brake lines would have broken first and I didnt feel like doing more work. Never got around to the valve cover gasket either.... that will be done probably next weekend.

It's funny because I actually was just looking at replacing the brakes on my Jetta. Any recommendations for brakes that won't break the bank? I was checking out German Auto Parts and they've got some slotted and drilled brakes. How much of a difference between them? Just replaced the wheels on my car and realized how bad the brakes are haha. Definitely interested in seeing some pics

i just picked up the basic brakes. Didnt get into anything special with slotted or drilled. My golf doesnt make enough power to require the extra braking power... lol

It's a 2.slow Jetta, so I'm sure the basic brakes should be fine. I just figured, for a little bit extra, is it worth it? But I guess not. I'll keep it simple. Just need it to do the job. Mine are starting to rust.
