pioneer avic d3
anyone got any reviews or info about this head unit, i'm gonna be pickin one up for the lexus and wanted to see if anyone has any first hand experience with it

they are awsome.. jayjay has one and doesn't like it but thats cause it's jayjay.. the thing does everything and is dirt cheap for what it can do

Better off buying a cheaper AVIC-D2. I just installed a D1 and my buddy loves it. With the D1 and D2 you have 2 slots, one for the Navi DVD and one for a regular CD or MP3 CD. Who wants to take out the Navi to play a CD with the D3? The only thing I hate with the Pioneers is that you can't play DVD's unless you get a external player, but thats cheap and quick so what does it matter. I think the D1 and D2 look a lot cleaner since they dont have all the buttons and the slot showing IMO. I would also look at the Kenwood Navi units which I think are awsome and cheaper. Plus they dont use DVD navi discs, only a small hideaway hardrive that can be updated via a memory card.

Only downfall is that you cant listen to cds while using navigation. Which is no biggie if you have the ipod interface. I just ordered the avic z2. Should be here today. I 2007 navi update dvds were just released too. Pioneer should give you them for free if you just bought the unit and its running the old one. Not sure if the d series runs the same software as the z though. Check out the avic411 site. Pretty much everything you need to know about the unit on there. AVIC411.com

i finally got to mess around with one and honestly, i think its a piece of crap compared to the alpine w205. i dont like anything about it... it's ugly, has complex menus... and of course that stupid nav dvd... and the nav is horrible compared to alpine's nav.
don't think i'm bashing pioneer... I've been using them for head units for the past 6 years... alpine just makes a better double din, hands down.

I was actually looking into the new alpine tv. If they had a release date for the new blackbird I prolly would have picked it up instead of the z2. Alpines 07 lineup is complete shit compared previous years. I love alpine but was pretty dissapointed in their new head units.

If Pioneer can work out their ergonomics, I think they'd make a damn good unit. Until then, I won't buy another Pioneer.
