So last night the girlfriend and I went out and bit the bullet. Like many others I was waiting for the price drop and also came across
the 5 free BR deal; figured I might as well take advantage before it's over. Free movies and saves me $120+. Got the console, an extra controller, PS2 memory card adapter, Virtua Tennis 3, Resistance, and one BR title Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.
The console is a lot bigger (and heavier) than I expected. Just by looks and weight alone you can feel that you spent a decent coin for it. It's replacing two of my devices, my upconvert DVD player and the PS2 so setup was pretty easy and just a matter of switching the HDMI and optical cables over. Though I had to move my receiver and center channel around to make some room for this thing which took a bit of time. Configuring the unit was pretty easy and the only issue I ran into was getting the wifi to connect. It recognized the signal at 100% but just wouldn't connect. After 3 tries and changing my WEP key I just went the wired route. I'll try adding the MAC address later tonight and see if that works.
I was surprised at how fast the controllers charged; didn't take very long to reach full battery. After downloading the latest updates, configuring the unit was no problem and when I was finished I had my personal background set and created a PSN account. Poked around in the online store, downloaded a few trailers and played with the internet browser. The girlfriend fell asleep by then so I didn't get a chance to play any games. I just wanted to get everything set up anyways. My favorite thing about it so far, the Bluetooth. I'm looking forward to using my piece with it; the 360 headset with the cord in the controller was just cumbersome for me.
Can't wait for LAIR and MGS4 to hit the shelves. Anyone have any recommendations for games to download?
