new firewall

well I picked up a new firewall for my home network pix 501 with unlimited users. Bit of a PITA to get running with the dsl but I got it running. Makes my old linksys router look like a busted rollerskate. Yeah its geeky but I like new tech toys lol.

its really amazing how much faster the pix is than the linksys router even my website responds faster. I have heard good things about the ios firewall. I have my pix doing the routing for me using static routes since my network is small at the house it works out nicely. even my vonage likes the pix better which is what I was really concerned about.

yeah i'm doing all static routes here too... works better, and its safer. no routing protocol has to go onto the perimeter router then. I want to set up an L2L vpn between my house and here, so I can eliminate my home phone service and piggyback off the voip here

VOIP through a vpn tunnel sounds cool. Dunno if you will be able to maintain the connection speed to keep the VOIP from breaking up though. I have never done it but I know that it is an issue on a local network I am guessing it would be a nightmare over a VPN.
