Good Bye HD-DVD

PC World - Toshiba Halts HD DVD Production, Mulls Future

Now that Warner Bros, Netflix, and Blockbuster have all chosen Blu-ray as their format of choice, the war is over. Prices on dedicated Blu-Ray players are down to about $500 on average, and I would bet that we will see a drop in price for the players over the next 6 months.

The PS3 really had no bearing on the format war. It all hinged on what the major distributors and major production houses decided to use as their format of choice. If places like Warner Bros, Netflix and Blockbuster chose HD-DVD, that is probably what would have won as well...

I'd love to say goodbye to HD-DVD, but I never said hello...

Samsung BDP-1400... FTW

Yea I actually returned my HD-DVD xbox player after the past 2 weeks of investigating stuff. I am sure Microsoft will go with a multi-format player in the future now that toshiba doesnt have the death grip on them.

Also the PS2 is stated to drop to 299 in the spring-->summer, making it the best Bluray player with great upconvert, and get you a video game system in the same process.

I don't think Sony would give them the rights to do that... It would put a pretty big dent in PS3 sales.
