| Updated 58 alfa romeo 58 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce Anyhow the former owner's of Evolution customs, which I use to work at years ago, started this car and dismantled it. It belongs to my land lord George Lepoard who is a huge European car collector. I've been cleaning up and painting a lot of Georges cars over the last few years. This is only the second "complete" restoration. I am missing a lot of the pics of the previous work and condition of the car. Overall it was a decent looking ride it just needed a little love. The car was torn down and put in a barn for a few years. Then last Winter we pulled it out. All the suspension was removed and the body received a custom cart and so it could get turned on its side to get sandblasted. Next it was put in Black epoxy primer. So that it wouldn't start to rust up before i got to it. Now I'm finally getting the time to go through it and replace the rotted out areas. Then hopefully i can get it body worked and primed. Before it goes on hold again. ya the steering wheel wont come off.....we are looking into a new one since its broken so for now its whatever. Ground the inner braces all down, and cut out all the rust, and just welded in a new strip to kinda give it it's strength back. I know it should of been blasted in there and cleaned up but i do my blasting outside. Yesterday Rochester wasn't going to allow that. So i wire wheeled the welds, rust inhibited, then brushed on epoxy primer and por 15'd all the welds and seams. Ground down and Por 15 the backside of the new rocker. inner wheel well. patched then primed. so ya that's where i am at on this car. hopefully today finish welding in the rocker. Clean it up, grind it, and move on to the floor pans. hope you guys like the extensive lay out on something so simple. I didnt finish off the welds on the inner structure because i figured why take away from the strength of the welds and your never going to see it. It did cross my mind though. Updates from the weekend.... now the only down fall to this whole process is that i let a friend borrow my welder for a week. Now for some reason it welds like shit on all the low settings that i normally use for welding thin sheet metal like 18 gauge. Though welding with high heat, I'm getting great penetration, but I'm doing a lot of chasing burn through, and i have to take my time so it doesn't warp. Also to me it looks like shit, and makes it look like i don't know how to weld...... but all said and done with some time grinding it will be seamless and perfect. Really I just don't want to see the bill on getting the welder fixed. i have a few more spots on the body to patch weld, grind, then sandblast.
