i dont think jay had meth.. he was running either 93 or c16 for the record. byron does have some work to his motor but fuckin a 29psi on meth?.. come on thats damn near supra type boost territory. the motor is capable and strong but alot of how long it lasts is all in the tuning.

didnt jays motor poo?. my buddy built a 2.5rs with a 2.0 that put out 579whp and the kid that owns the car put it into a curb, baisicly ripped the rearend of the car out but the motor is still running. no meth....most of the info i am getting is comming from a person who swaps and builds suby's for a living becuase me myself i do not have much knowladge on sub'y motors. but i bet im the only person in the conversation who has taken one apart, you bookworms and your reading.

579whp on a 2.0?......ehhh impressive but if thats the case its got a 500 rpm useable powerband. and yes jays motor did puke... bad stock piston... with numerous passes down the drag strip and prolly 20k miles on a gt35r.

You're right. I"ve taken seven apart. Plus two more in Dan's garage.

the 2.0L EJ20 is a strong block, but the rods don't like more than 400 ft-lbs. EJ257 will take more than that, plus it's semi-closed deck unlike any other USDM subie motor that's open deck. Jay's motor popped, but look at the abuse. I'm sure he'll attest to it.

and no, there is NO subie motor that's going to last at 579whp. It may be capable of that output, but I strongly doubt it's being run at that level on a consistent basis.

Or the fact that he overrevved the shit out of it? Who knows the reasons. Said this before but you guys act like the block fell apart. It was still being drivin, still went on the dyno, and still was being tracked. Also, 20K on a GT35R? I doubt that.

No one can pinpoint what caused it but he was a Nazi on the tuning and knows what he is doing.

As far as the boost comment, to make big power, you need to go past 1BAR for these small displacement motors. Period. Some engines just handle better to higher boost application such as the 2JZ. Running that motor at 1BAR is an injustice because it's rock solid. The magazines have the public skewed, not everyone is daily driving with VP C16 and boost towards 2BAR. Know your car. If you have the octane, fuel, tune, supporting mods, and your block can handle it, then go for it (Be smart tho).

Also, 30PSI on meth is crazy for at least me. However, we, again, are talking back pressure and not what power it is making. You should make more power with the methanol as well. However, 30PSI when your yanking -10* is a bit dumb IMHO but it depends on what power the car makes.

For me, 17-19PSI = 93 octane; up to 23-24PSI = 100 octane; up to WG line pulled (~33PSI) = VP C16. But put it on the dyno, if you can run 25-30PSI and there is no knock, no timing pull, no TQ drop off, then I guess you're ok?
