should this turbo be used?

I have an install going on in my garage right now and the parts finally showed up. But the turbo came with this small dent. It is the last VF-34 that gruppe-s has and his car has been ripped apart in my garage for 5 days now. Should I install this turbo? (BTW I have told him about it already. I just want other opinions)

absolutely not. You have no idea what the internal condition is. For all you know, that impact did something to the cartridge or the bearing surfaces.

there is no shaft play. But I know what you're saying. The impact could only have been so bad though as the overall size of the box it was packed in was about 20x20x18. It was in it's own box and then inside a big box with an uppipe.

I can't see the pic, either. If there was enough impact to cause a dent in the housing, I would assume there was enough impact to possibly cause issues within the unit itself. Without disassembly/reassembly it's a coin flip. I'd leave it up to the customer.

No. Who knows the internal damage? Moai can work up some fancy calculations regarding how the air is going to be altered with that dent too.
