Pretty common for them to blow off our little brass egr saucer of doom. There's a "mini-nipple" pointing to the passenger side that the vac. line randomly flies off of. That little bitch is gonna get zip tied tomorrow if she's the culprit.

Use hairspray and shoot that nipple before zipping the hose back on.

Damn that sounded like what I did to your mom last night

I really wish there was a way to "trick" the ecu to ignore the EGR ....without going standalone. I get that cel every now and then too

Some piggybacks/standalone allow you to just turn on the readiness monitors so you can pass inspection.

To "trick" it, you need to know what interfaces with that logic within the ECU to determine if it is faulty or not. For 3/S, the 94-95 use voltage so users can put in a resistor. The 96-99 cars use a MAP and it's a complete bitch to duplicate that pressure. Perhaps other cars use a different method. EGR is friggin pointless OBDII bullshit anyhow.

Indeed. If you have cats onboard or use a variable valve timing system, you're probably burning just as clean as an EGR system would cause.
Then again, without cats, without VVT, without an EGR and with a more aggressive cam profile, your exhaust smells like raw fuel My tailpipe makes me cry with joy.
