turbo rebuild/porting

I'm brand spanking new to this site. It was JUST recommended to me and I wanted to say hello and start off with my first post dealing with turbos. I've been around for quite a long time on many other forums and I wanted to see what information I could gain/offer to this one. So...on to my question...

Can anyone recommend a good company/shop that does turbo rebuilding and porting? I live in Ithaca, NY and I'm looking for someone or someplace that can do this before I install the turbo I just bought (used ). It doesn't have to be local (although I don't mind driving a distance). Also, what kind of gains do people usually see when porting? Decent or just so-so? If it matters, the turbo is a Garrett T28 that came stock on an S14 blacktop SR20. Any input would rock. Thanks in advance.

Adam Hennessy (BoxerSix) on these forums is based out of the Albany area and is MORE than capable of a rebuild and port job.

Awesome! Thank you. I'll contact him and see what he has to say. That's only about a 2 hour drive from where I work (Binghamton, NY).

Be very careful who you have doing this. Plenty of people send it off to "reputable" shops and the work is shit.

Porting/clipping seems to be recommended (or not) based on various setups. I'd imagine porting is always a good thing. My EVOIII-16Gs are ported but I have no before/after comparison to advise if it helped at all.

Clipping turbines is not a practice I like to follow. I'd rather just spec out a higher flowing turbine replacement(if applicable) for the CHRA. Porting works well for those that have manifolds that flow as well too. When porting, I usually like to have the accompanying manifold(s) to port match the manifold to the turbine housing as well.

Thanks for the reference guys....

The post above plus his references qualifies for a "reputable" shop.

^Yeah...I've been talking to him about doing this. Apparently everyone who has worked with him highly recommends him.
