I agree with you about the necessity of a wing, but for the wrong reasons, wings are not strictly for rwd cars. If you've ever looked at some aerodynamics diagrams and wind tunnel experiments, they're mainly used to create downforce, so having both a front splitter and a rear wing on any car is going to help keep grip at speeds. While the extra grip in the back may help rwd cars a little more...a well set up car aerodynamically can help a lot as well.
I think the reason we don't see it as much on the other drive vehicles, is that most professional race cars are rwd.
