Watch where you're going old man!
So I got done with my deliveries early today and decided to fill up the truck before I park it for the night. I'm no more than 1000 feet from my aprtment when I see an old man in a Pontiac grand am drift into my lane, jerk the wheel and back into his lane, then back into my lane. I moved over a bit but he was IN my lane. I hear a thump so I imedeatley whip around my 158" wheel base van as fast as it will whip around and floor it to catch the guy. I get a red light and I watch as he pulls into rite aid plaza on. Light turns green I pull into rite aid and watch as the guy is looking at his car. I pull up next to him get out and confront him about what just happened. He tells me he thought a stone got kicked up and hit his car. I tell him, No you just drifted into my lane and you're mirror scuffed the side of my van. He points to a scratch on the TOP of his mirror and tells me "that was already there." I tell him "Yes, but what about the scuff on the side of the mirror and the scuff mark on my van that just happens to be at the same hight?" He looks at me puzzled. I proceed to tell him I'm required to fill out an accident packet that I carry at all times. The first thing I have him sign is a form that say he will not sue me or FedEx and that he is responsible for what just happened. This is why I strongly support older people to be re-tested every 6-12 months.

yeah I think after age 65, when you are legally able to retire and collect social security...you should be tested for you drivers license every 5 years, and it should get more frequent as people get older!

I was at Hannaford getting a salad for lunch the other day... I'm at the register and an old couple is in front of me. I watch this old man try and get his wallet out of his pocket. His hands are shaking violetly the entire time, he can barely move or walk. Definately someone that should be in a home or haves omeone help him. His wife, I assume, who is just as old, had to take his wallet out of his pocket for him.
I pay, and go to leave, and see him getting in the drivers seat of his buick. I sit and watch. He's so weak that he cant turn the key to start the car. He gets out and opens the hood and stares at the motor. At this point, I left.
I'm not going to descriminate and say that old people shouldn't drive, because some are very healthy. I think their doctors should evaluate them regularly and submit a form to the DMV if they feel the person is not in the conditoon to be operating a motor vehicle.

none of that will ever happen, because old people vote in the highest percentage and the aarp is one of the biggest interest groups in the united states.

That true because all we ever do is complain on the internet about it, and they don't have anything better to do except complain to their congress people or whatever about punk kids

My father works at Price Chopper in Colonie and last week a 90 year old man hit a parking sign and launched his Buick off it onto another car. He wanted to put the car in reverse and drive off the other car.
My mom's car got hit 2 years ago in Niskayuna at a red light because the old lady two cars back didnt see the truck in front of her. Then she got out of the car and walked around babbling and got back in the car and turned the wipers on. She was from Maryland.

I remember there was a story about an old guy in florida. [Figures].
He'd hit someone crossing the road and killed them, but kept driving becuase he had no idea what had just happened. Miles later, he rolls up to a tollbooth with a dead body on his hood and they had to block his vehicle and get him out.
After investigation, it was proven that he simply had no situational awareness whatsoever. Now come on. If you can hit and KILL someone, drive for MILES with them ON YOUR HOOD and only get stopped when someone else sees the body...
...should we be spending our efforts handing out exhaust tickets to enthusiasts? Oh. Wait. Right.
Tickets = Money
Money > Justice

I think EVERYONE should be retested every 3 years despite age. There are too many important motor skill factors that go along with driving not to ensure safety. They worry about speeding and such...what about the people operating the vehicles? Shouldn't that be concern #1?

Did the guy even have a license? Correct me if I'm wrong, I was under the impression that once you reach a certain age you cannot renew your lisence
