Which laptop you guys recomend

yo i was just wondering what laptops you guys recomend. My intentions for it is listening to lots of music, light to no gaming, i want it to be semi portable and be able to bring it on vacations and use it in the car and what not, and as for memory ram and what not im gonna get the best i can afford.. but what im wondering is what makers do you guys recomend. One of my big worries is screens.. i used to look at the sony vaios until my boss got one and the screen sucked it was extremely dim and hard to see even after playing around with the dimmer and contrast and what not... i dont know if he had any technology screen or what not but i know i didnt like it

so what im wondering is what manufacturer u recomend and possibly why and some pros/cons of the laptops

thanks alot
ps i looked into apple and although i like them, im not a fan of their os and i dont know how much support they have for engineering programs and i know clarkson dropped all support for them i believe

i used to think IBM was really good but then they outsourced to japan or china or what not and are now Lenovo... anyone know how they are?

Also i have an xbox 360 im bringing up so i might get a hd screen and use that as a monitor for my laptop for gaming or what not.. my neighbors roomate has that set up with his ps3 up there
