A record is a record, regardless. When they did this to Maris it was a travesty. This is no better. I can't take MLB, they're the only idiots that deem it necessary to * records when they feel its not in baseballs best interest for the record to be broken. Give me a god damn break.

AMEN! Thats what I keep saying and everyone jumps all over me saying Bonds is a cheater this and that. The guy is good at baseball, steroids or not. Steroids does not make you a good baseball player or make you automatically hit more homeruns.
Has there ever been comparisons of bat speed for when people thing he was on steroids and then pre steroids?

One of the biggest parts of hitting is vision and picking up the pitch out of the hand of the pitcher. None of which is going to be significantly effected by steroids. If anything, it may have allowed him to remain healthier and play longer, and if he's stronger who cares. If he hits the ball out of the park by 5 ft or 50 ft it still counts all the same. I hate these discussions.

You dont hit this many homeruns when your this old, if he didnt cheat he porbably would not be playing therefore the record wouldnt be broken. You can add me on the list though of people that dont give a shit..........The guy has never won anything in is life, he can hit all the homeruns he wants

MLB is not the one putting the "*" on the ball... it was voted on by the people.
you should not praise cheaters
He was an all around great baseball player (on the plate and in the field). In recent years he blew up, got really bulky and slow. His hitting power increased a whole lot, but his speed and fielding suffered. He was headed for the hall of fame anyways, he did not need to roid it up and hit huge HRs to make a name for himself.

Somehow Barry has increased his performance as he gotten older which, similiar to what Walt just said, that typically does not happen. Normally, the #s decrease with age. No surprise steroids are in the mix.

So when do you guys consider him to have started taking steroids? Looking at his career stats, he CONSITANTLY hit 30-40 HR's a season, with the exception of that 73 HR season. In 93 he had 46 HR's, so its not really as drastic of a difference as people are making this. The only thing that I can MAYBE see, is that it helped him stay "healthy" longer, but he is not the only 43 year old baseball player to still be good. Clemens is older, Nolan Ryan was pretty old, Cal Ripkin Jr. and lots of others.
Do I think steroids could have helped him, sure; but I don't think its as cut and dry as everyone is making it out to be. Just look at his career stats.
