I love dogs, and I can understand why some people would even love cats (I don't like them)... but in no way do I understand having a pet bird. Please enlighten me.

Birds are cool to have around, and to interact with. It's amazing what the vocabulary of our african grey is already, and its only just about two years old. They are on par with chimpanzee's as far as intelligence, which puts them just ahead of brew and behind dc2nick
