Only cables carrying an analog signal really make any difference, and it's unlikely that you will see that difference at the level of packaged systems. I replaced the speaker wire that came with the kit with some belkin pure-av simple because the stuff that comes is REALLY small, and the belkin was cheap for a spool. For cables, however, I would look into AudioQuest. They are some of the best cables around, but not cheap at all. I think the 75 ohm coax digital cables that I have for my studio monitors were like $75 each for 2m.

Remember HDMI carries a digital signal, so don't waste your money on a monster or anything special. I bought HDMI cables for like $3 a piece from firefold, and they'll work fine. Home - FireFold
I meant components meaning surround sound system + receiver. I used the wrong word. However, there is a difference from a packaged system to my Polk Audio. But, I don't understand people like my buddy who spent $3K on a 42" Plasma yet uses the stock speakers. Unreal.

I notice quite a bit of difference in cabling. Not saying you need monster or expensive shit but there *IS* a difference, IMHO but just for audio. I've noticed it with my Monster THX Component vs generic component but didn't notice anything diff from my bluejeancables HDMI vs my $250 Monster M series HDMI cable.

I guess the brand makes some sort of difference. I just wouldn't go out and drop a TON on Monster nor would I buy some shit ass cable. I stick with bluejeans, it works for me.

Mark saw a demo at CEDIA in the monster booth and by simply going from the cheapest monster HDMI and working the way up on the exact same equiptment showing the same images you can see a change in picture

Meh...I don't believe there's a noticeable difference no matter what cables you buy. I worked for a while as a home theater tech. and of course would upsell people to all the monster power products including the $200+ line conditioner/surge protector (the BEST thing you can buy for your home entertainment center, fuck the cables). Rarely could a difference be spotted from cable to cable on anyone's TV. The only time it makes any difference at all is if you're in a theater-style room with an insanely large screen (100"+) where grain becomes relevant. Only at that point are upgrading to the Monster/similar cables necessary. If anyone else tells you otherwise, they're trying to steal your money

And before you ask, yes, I have all Monster shit at my house. But no, I didn't pay for it Leftovers from installs ftw!

I'm just pointing out the fact that mark said there was a noticeable difference from cable to cable... even after he originally said cables dont make a difference. Oh, and at my Denon training seminar 2 weeks ago, they said you need to use a cable that can trasnfer data at a high rate of speed also... but hey, i guess i dont know what i'm talking about... it's not like i do this for a living or anything...

Correct, you need a cable that transfers data at a high rate of speed. But if you're using an optical audio cable...tell me, what's the difference between a generic brand and the monster cable? Aside from monster uses more insulation around the optic core and the obvious jacketing. The speed rates, I would wager, are almost identical and would be undetectable in almost any instance unless you have an insane audiophile in a properly staged room with no furniture to interfere with the sound.

optical is a full digital signal. it either works or it doesnt. there can be a difference in speeds depending on the quality of the optic core though, but considering it's light, not that much of a difference.
