I had a reaction to red also, but only in the fold at my elbow. It didn't itch though, just puffed up like a hive.
But honestly, you sound more like you're getting it for us than for yourself. Be aware that if you ever want something that has some real meaning to it, that tat may be covering skin you need for your piece and you may regret it. I was talked out of a stupid tattoo when I was younger. Thank god I listened.
