2002 BMW E46 M3 Racecar

Hello all, again

Its been a while, hope everyone is good in the new year!

Thats a simple blog style website I made for my E46 M3 project.

I'm building it to BMWCCA/SCCA SM/ITE specs, basically unlimited classes. Its more of a fun project and semi promotional than anything, but I'll be racing it for sure in those classes/series, unless I get my DSR sooner than I hope and can race that full time.

Its a 2002 M3 chassis, thats going to be powered by a BMW M50 2.8L I6 turbo.

I'm doing all of theengineering/design work on the car and 99% of the fabrication in house (by yours truly). Car is going to be a tube framed rear end, and the front is just going to use a modified subframe with modifed control arms, with the geometry corrected for my suspension components and rideheight.

280 yok slicks on all four corners, rotora brakes, tilton pedal assembly, woodward steering, side exhaust (with separate dump tube), 6spd drivetrain, custtom lsd rear end, carbon doors/trunk/hood/roof, yadda yadda yadda, check the website for all the specs.

Target weight is 2550#, Wet, w/driver

I'm also designing a bunch of aero components for it, as well as a cockpit adj front swaybar, and custom Ohlins dampers.

I designed a bunch of stuff while engineering at RRT last year, but now I'm onto bigger things and this is my side project.

Car is currently hibernating as its new home is being built, but here is a picture after I reassembled some of the car and

Enjoy!

Steven

The car is only 25% built guys, I thought that was pretty obvious lol

Those are all stock body panels, I'm using carbon panels for the doors, trunk, hoor, and roof.

The car prob wont be done until winter of 07-08, but we'll see.

Once I finish the cage and tube framing, It'll basically just be buying stuff and bolting it on.

I probably still have another 30k or so to spend for the motor and suspension and aero.

As for the headlights, I sold 99% of the car once I got it from the salvage yard (fresh water flood), i'll be using headlight blanks of course.

Its a race car

Rear suspension design is almost done, waiting for a couple more parts to come back from the CNC shop:

I have my eyes on an E46, if you're looking to put anything into production I'm sure I'll be interested.

I have a production item being manufacturing and distributed by www.tcdesignfab.com

They are one of the top cage builders, and build some great race cars. They have in house cnc mill/lathe, and have taken on my Delrin Shift Knob, aka "Jaffster/TC Design Delrin Knob."

Ecommerce will be up soon, but I sold 54 of them in the first two days, and once he does the next production run and ecommerce is up, they should quick hopefully...help fund this E46 project

Also, there will be available shortly a "street/track" version of the "tall grande" shift knob for street and track applications, as opposed to the full race version.

I ended up getting an E36. Couldn't beat the deal and it was triple black. Parts for it are dirt cheap, too.
