jay i did have one question for you though on the build. with that built motor and such did you happen to upgrade the headers on the car? ive been reading on nasioc where people are picking up 20-30hp by going with equal length headers over unequal length and sometimes close to 40hp over stockers through the ENTIRE rpm band... lemme know... thanks.

I still have the stock exhaust manifold on the car... and it's leaking like a bitch right now. I'll probably put an EL header on the car at the same time as when we do the 3.5" exhaust.
I have 200 miles on the motor so far. I changed the oil this morning. There is a boost leak and an exhaust leak/rattle... I ordered longer exhaust hangers and am gonna try to dig in to the boost leak today.
I got my laptop working with ECUFlash again and disabled all the check engine lights from having the TGV's removed. Last night I tried bringing the idle down, I got it to 900 and it was nice and lumpy, but when I tried going lower it threw misfire CELs on cylinders 2,3,4. I'm going to disable those ones too, and it should be good to go as far as check engine lights go. That's only 8 CELs I had to disable LOL. I think there were 6 disabled before that.

The longer exhaust hangers already shipped.
The car threw another CEL today, but I couldn't find any codes with my laptop, accessport, or a generic obd2 scanner. I disabled two P0000 codes, hopefully that will fix it. I have 5 sensors ready and 2 incomplete (o2 and evap system)... really hope I can get this thing inspected in the next couple days.

that p0000 was my big problem with the AP. I needed my tune built off the newest subaru ROM because the one cobb built it off is the original '04 sti rom and my car didn't like that one once I started getting it tuned. I believe the p0000 is because the ecu knows there is a problem but it can't light the misfire code because they are disabled and it lights that one.
Since my open source tune I have not had a single CEL.
Jay, i'd like to get together with you at some point and to hear your engine. You said it's pretty quiet. I've only had a few forged pistons to listen to so far. I'd like to compare.

Sure thing Byron. The motor is quiet and I attribute that to the .0030 p/w clearence they ran with the CP Pistons. I have about 500 miles on it now, and have yet to take it above 5500rpm/8psi. As soon as I figure out the boost leak I'll start giving it 15psi. I fixed one leak the other day, but I suspect that the remaining leak is a big one, like a torn ic coupler or something.
I have no CELs now, but the obd2 readiness monitors for o2 and evap are still incomplete. I've done ~300 miles since the last ecu reset and at least 10 driving cycles. I am gonna try a couple other things before upgrading to the latest ecu rom. If i have to upgrade, I lose the ability to tune the car in realtime.

I did some research and it seems that on an STI, the way to make the o2/evap readiness monitors ready, is to let the car idle for 1 minute after driving 20 minutes at 50mph with a half tank of gas. Maybe I need to pat my head and rub my belly while standing on one foot, too. Crazy car.
I'm bringing the car in to Synapse this afternoon to try and fix the boost leak and exhaust rattle. Hoping to be running 15psi this weekend... that should be good for ~350whp. 600 miles on her now...

I brought the car in to Synapse today and they fixed everything. The downpipe was hitting the tranny crossmember, which is a really common problem with the perrin turbo kit. They were able to make a bit of clearence which was enough, and fix the other little exhaust rattles and the massive boost leak (there was a loose IC coupler in the passenger side fender).
The car runs great now. 14-15psi of boost pulls hard and the external dump wastegate sounds great. I have AFR's at low 11's, 7k rev limit, and about 24 degrees of timing on the top end. 65% injector duty cycle already. My datalogs show 4.3v at the maf which is a whole lot of air considering my old 22-23psi pump gas tune used to hit 4.4-4.5v. Can't wait to crank the boost up!
Moai, wait till I blast your ears out with the EWG
