So what you're saying is:
a.) The sports compact scene sprang up overnight in 9 years
b.) You were one of the original innovators
God. Please step off. Hooray for you that you bought an 86 hatch in 98. Good for you that you bought parts for it and what parts you couldn't buy, you made or made work.
Hate to burst your bubble, but I had blown up my first saturn motor by then and already had a fully balanced and blueprinted longblock, head and bottom end built using components I'd chosen, Head-back exhaust, intake and throttlebody. On a saturn. On a platform damn near NOBODY knew shit about.
And you know what? I'm not claiming I've been in it since "the beginning". I have never opened my mouth about my position in "the scene" becuase I have more respect and less ignorance about what "the scene" really is.
If you think it's some kids hanging out in some parking lot with a bunch of hondas on cut stock springs and 15" three-point American Racing wheels, you go right ahead. Maybe you invented the internet too.
The real beginning goes farther back than you even know. It's beyond the Mugen Si of the mid 80's, back through the Datsun 240z's of the 70's. You want to say you've been doing the sports compact scene since "the beginning?" When you've got a record winning at Laguna Seca in Datsun 510's, then you can talk. When you've modified a Mini Cooper and participated in the Monte Carlo rally, have at it.
Until then, you're just a kid from upstate new york that bought a few parts for his car when the market didn't have a lot to offer. You may be a lot of things, but none of them are anything you've said you are.
Know your place.
