Second that. After blowing up the Passat 1.8t in July, we were looking for another VW for my girly. Drove the Jetta 2.5 and wasn't really impressed. Maybe it was just the shoddy condition of the drive cars at Nemer. Didn't feel like it had a lot of balls or decent handling. Maybe they've revised it though and it's far from being a BAD car.
Ended up with a new mazda 3 series and have LOVED driving it since day 1.

I really like the Mazdaspeed3. If I didn't want a pickup so bad, that would have probably been my next car.

Sad The GT with the 2.3 is torquey as hell. We got ours loaded with the HID's, leather, seat heaters, etc.
In retrospect, she would've been better off with the mazdaspeed 3, which I almost had her convinced was the best one, but she hates hatchbacks
Loved the power though. When we drove off the lot, I cried inside. You'll be fine with the jetta... but you won't be winning any races

haha. we're not looking to win any races with this lol. We got most of the upgrades that you could get with the jetta, but I wish we had HID's...no biggie though.
I think I like the looks of the jetta better than the mazda 3

You did NOT get the most upgrades you can get with the Jetta. You bought an SE which is the "middle" trim level option. They also offer the S, which is the base, and the SEL which is the top of the line as far as the Jetta goes. Vincent is a bunch of morons and should've informed you of that if you wanted a top of the line Jetta with the msot upgrades you could get. I still say you should've contacted me first. And Eric...NEMER?!? Have you people no shame?!?

She bought it from Nemer back in 03, before I even met you. Hell no did I want her to buy another VW again. She went so we could lay to rest the concept that VW was all things awesome.
Once she drove the 3, she was sold. She's not an enthusiast by any means, but when we went and I introduced her to the Zoom Zoom concept of a sporty car, you should've seen the size of the smile on her face

Their Jetta must not have been prepped...cause the 2.5 defenitely is more snotty than the 2.3 w/o question. For 08 the 2.5 is 170hp/170tq and runs really nice in either the 6 spd tiptronic or the 5 spd manual. Neither car is gonna light the roads on fire by any means, however.

I bet the Jetta weighs like 400 pounds more though. I think the Mazda 3 is 150hp so they should feel pretty similar.

Yeah. The 3 I have is ~157hp and about an equal amount of torque. Flat powerband, very responsive motor. The handling is outstanding though. R | |
