Seat Re-Covering

Well, i thought it was time to give my bike a little more style i found some cool fabric just minutes before joann fabrics closed, so heres some basic instructions on how to go about re-covering a seat.

Materials: Seat, desired fabric, 10mm wide x 3/8" staples, staple gun, and 3m adhesive spray.

Step One: remove seat from motorcycle

Step Two:
i had to remove the two bolts that secure the strap on the seat, (although i didn't replace the strap because it was black pleather) i did re-install that bracket because it aids in locking the seat in place

Step Three: Not pictured but grab a medium size flat head screw driver and a pair of needle nose pliers and remove all the staples. (Note: not all seats need the pleather cover removed)

Step Four: cut the fabric to a square while allowing for extra because it will have to cover the edges of the seat.

Step Five: Spray the seat foam with adhesive spray. this will help the seat stick while your stapling. and makes for a cleaner look because it allows you to remove wrinkles because the fabric is already where you want it. the adhesive isn't permanent, I've found you can peel the fabric up even after its contacted.

Step Six: not pictured because every seat will need to be stapled differently, but you basically start with four points on the seat i usually do a North, South then East, West pattern to secure the fabric sufficiently. please think relevantly the entire circumference of the underside of the seat will have staples. i try to staple every 1/4" to make sure the fabric doesn't move or readjust itself.

Pictured above is my rear seat to my 05 Suzuki GSXR 600.

Pictured here is the newly covered xr50 seat.

Hope You All Enjoy!

Paisley? Any pics of it one the bike? I thought my friend was nuts for going brown snake-skin on a blue and black bike but it actually looks sweet so I'll pass on any judgment until I see it all put together.
