the zx6r is a 636cc bike the zx6rr is only a 599cc bike so it is still legal to use in 600cc races.

Yea I hear ya, I have done a decent amount of research for a good first bike and I think I have my choices narrowed down to either a EX500 of SV650S.

i think the suzuki gs500 is better than the ex500 though.

Not a fan of the looks. The EX500 looks a lot "sportier" than the GS500 IMO.
