How hard/expensive is carb work?

I found what appears to be a SWEET deal on a 2003 Ninja EX500. He says it ran perfect until very recently and he believes it to be just some carb cleaning and a fuel filter. I am trying to get a little more info, but it seems like a good deal. He is only asking $1000 for it.

Ok, well I found out the problem. The guy said that it just started leaking from the gaskets that connect the carbs to the pistons. I don't know much about bikes yet, so I am not sure if something like that is a simple fix or not.

Any ideas? Just a gasket? New carbs? Cleaning?

new gasket...and since you would have to take the carb off to change it...it wouldnt hurt to check the floats in the carb and clean it also

Thanks, that is what I would have guessed. Now the downside is that someone went to look at it yesterday the guy fiddled with the carbs and got it running right, so the guy put down a deposit. So if he doesn't follow through, then the seller said he would contact me.

I was so close too...

Now I am looking at an 04 GS500F that the guy is asking 2700 for and it has less than 4k miles. I will see what the lowest he would take is.
