Theory is that he used 1/2" nuts on 12mm studs and used an impact wrench to put them on.

Sorry I forgot the include the story in my first post. To my understanding from the original forum post from a Bimmerforums member who was there, the shop that put the wheels on used lug nuts with the wrong pitch and also didnt torque them tight enough.

Damage included the suspension obviously, but also tore up the entire underside of the chassis which is the expensive stuff (not exactly a bolt off/bolt on fix). He had it towed from NC to GA home from what I'm told.


Ouch.
