CAI / Cold Air Intake - New Vs. Used
I'd like to get the Injen CAI for my RSX asap, but I'm not too keen on spending nearly $300 for a metal tube and an air filter. That price is absurd for what it is, so I'm looking into getting a used one.
What are the cons of buying a used intake? There's not a whole lot that can go wrong with one...right?

Check ebay... A used one will be dirty.. Thats about all that can go wrong with them.... A used one may also need a new filter element.. Parts stores have those for ~25-30$

I did. They run about $295 on eBay. The cheapest one I've found is $260 on ClubRSX.com but that's still a lot for what it is

$300 for a CIA is ridiculous. It's just a K&N on the end of some tube right? Even so, you should be able to get it used and replace the filter.

The Cold Air Intakes for the RSX i believe come with a new Windsheild wiper fluid resvior thats relocate but CAI are always around $250 plus or minus some. If you want and intake and want to spend less get a short ram intake instead. The Injen for that car is $270 or $255 for an AEM from us or a $170 for a K&N Short Ram, $175 for AEM, $210 for Injen. You could ball completly out of control and pick up the ARC Induction Box. Baller JDM right there for only the small fee of $530.

Just like he said... I'm pretty sure the RSX CAI does have the wiper fluid relocation kit with it... Hell, my AEM CAI for my SRT-4 was 230 brand new...
oh, and if you need a 3" bypass valve, I have one (AEM) sitting on my desk, brand new in box, that I am not going to use... PM me if you want it

Unlike most cars the RSX is suppose to have a somewhatnoticable power gains from and intake cold air or short ram.

Correct. That's one of their big bang-for-buck. It just sucks that CAI are priced so high. It's what the market is though.

Yeah, I did this on ClubRSX. Was told by a mod to "support the site you use" and buy one of theirs , which are $260 - $295. They make enough money already.
Ended up getting a PM from a member who's going to sell me a new one for quite a bit less than that.

Get a used name-brand intake, or a new one. I know it's "just a tube with a filter", but AEM, Injen, etc spent a lot of R&D time on that stuff, and the $30 ones on ebay are just copying their design. You might be getting the same thing in the end, but if nobody supports the companies that are actually out there making new products and making them tuned and working well for each engine, they won't be around any more. There wouldn't be any new stuff for the cheap shit to knock off.
I'll be interested to see what you get. My roommate has an 03 Type S as well, and I'm trying to convince him to stop being so damn stock (stereo aside). The K20 definitely responds extremely well to bolt ons, and it's god a hell of a sound with an intake!
