Cash for clunkers deal to end Monday night, government says

The Obama administration plans to cut off dealer funding for the cash-for-clunkers program on Monday night, Aug. 24, at 8 p.m., after finding that the $3 billion fund is nearing depletion, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said.
"This program has been a lifeline to the automobile industry," LaHood said in a statement Thursday.
The Transportation Department said Thursday that dealers had applied for $1.9 billion in rebates for voucher payments made to customers.
Government surveys have also sought to determine how large a stockpile of transactions remain unclaimed by dealers.

No its definitely a legit rebate. Only thing is all the money the government is giving to the dealers for this will eventually come back to us in the form of higher taxes.

Monroney sticker - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
Monroney sticker
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Senator Mike MonroneyIn the United States, all new automobiles are required to include an official form listing certain information about the car; this window sticker is commonly called a Monroney sticker in the industry (or simply a window sticker), named after Almer Stillwell "Mike" Monroney, United States Senator from Oklahoma. Monroney sponsored the Automobile Information Disclosure Act of 1958, which mandated disclosure of information on new automobiles.

The sticker is required to be affixed to the side window or windshield of every new car sold in the United States and can only be removed by the consumer (US Code Title 15 Chapter 28 Sections 1231-1233). A fine of up to US$1,000 per vehicle plus one year in jail for each offense is authorized if the sticker is missing. The act does not apply to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 8500 pounds (3856 kg).

The sticker must include the following information:

-The manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP)

-Engine and transmission specifications

-Standard equipment and warranty details

-Optional equipment and pricing

-City and highway fuel economy ratings, as determined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

-As of September 2007, crash test ratings as determined by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
now if the window sticker says the car's retail is $XX,XXX they can't add a 4,500 premium to it and then sell it. not one person would buy a car from that dealer

thank you, thank you

What you guys don't understand is most cars sell for well below sticker. Of course that's if you know how to buy a car.

Thank god they're getting rid of these... it's just another excuse for dealers to push people into buying cars, and wasting the taxpayers money on this fucking bullshit.

everyone?... the clunker program is for new cars only.. you go to a new car dealer and show me where they are selling a car with a $4,500 mark up that is eligible for this program.. you show me proof and i'll give ya the $4,500

new car sales and used car sales are to very different worlds
