(rephrased) are there any shops that inspect more loosely than others?

then no one can pass it... you need to fix it first cause the computer will see the light and fail it.. it's not up to the techs

Tech has to scan the system since its OBDII and check for an SES or anything else. If there is something wrong it wont pass until its fixed. No matter where you bring it, its gonna be the same price for an inspection so you might as well bring it somewhere that does good work and will treat you good.

the check engine light came on after my friend and i put on my msd ignition. i obviously did something wrong since im pretty car retarded. ill probably just unhook it and wire it up normally so i can pass inspection then figure out whats wrong with the ignition later.

You will definately fail if you have a CEL. Get a OBDII scanner from Walmart. You NEED 6 out of 8 readiness monitors passing and *NO* CEL. You will get 3 immediately. You need 3 out of the next 5 to pass.
