help. Broke every single lug nut on the PS rear...

...and then some.

So i got hammered Friday night, woke up Saturday at a friends and we all decided to go to Friday's for some grub.

All goes well, we leave, and on the way home i hear this, almost rubbing, but more of a very faint very low rumbling coming from the back of the car, so i hit the flashers, hop out and look at the wheel and immediately think some asshole took two of my lugbolts out.

Look inside the holes;

WRONG, the heads of them look sheared off, so i think to myself: Well that's fuckin weird, so i limp the car home around 20mph, and as we're about 30 seconds from his house i start hearing this loud clicking , sounds like metal failing...

Jack the car up, go to take the wheel off and one more lug gets decapitated, head just falls off the second we touch the lug wrench to it

Other two come out, barely hand-tight, and are cracked...so i compare all of the lug bolts that i have, all seem to be either broken or cracked, and all in the same place.

So i go to drill out the three studs that are still in the hub, two back right out the other side and into the e-brake housing.

The last one however is proving to be one of those things that if anything can go wrong, it will. We decide to try an easy out, i drill a hole with a 1/8" bit about 1/4" to 3/8" deep, hammer in an easy-out ('easy' ) go to twist it to back it out and *SNAP*. Easy-out breaks off flush with the stud .

So today i order a Vorshlag stud kit, and attack the remaining lug, banging up the threads in the hub, and finally got the easy out out of the stuck lug remnant.

but now the remnants of the lug won't come out, seem to be fused in there, so we give up and live to fight another day, i have to drive the car to work, etc so we say eff it ill limp around on only 4 lugs on that wheel, just until the stud kit arrives where we'll properly attack the lug with an oxy-acetylene torch.

mount rotor, caliper, wheel, and go to check the other lugs on the car;

can't break the lugs with the tools we had on hand (had to use a 10" 1/2" drive extension while trying to break them, so we didnt have much leverage, but they're sure as hell not loose...) so i move on to the left front.

the first two lugs i go to break snap off in my hand as i'm putting the socket on them

i said some choice words to the car and called it quits.

send help.

a diagram:

the smaller image is the cross-section of the hub, the face being on the right... we have a hole drilled in the middle, but us whacking on it with a hammer seems to have fused the remainder of the lug in the hub

Thermally shock it. Heat the lug with o/a red hot, then shock the lug piece with non-flammable brake cleaner. This usually breaks the surface tension between the parts and allows movement.

I stress the non-flammable part pretty well. I need not explain I hope

if that doesn't work, try a left handed drill bit. That's worked for me on 15 year old manifold studs that broke off in the head.

Haha, WD40 is charged with propane

CRC, Permatex, Napa's brand. There are few out there that are non-flammable

great idea, but i suggest using some computer keyboard duster spray (canned air) oh and hold the bottle upside down while spraying, it will come out colder

also makes for a fun toy if you wanna spray your friends lol chemical burns ftw
