Exhaust shop in Rochester
Does anyone know of a quality shop that I could have an exhaust fabricated up for me? I already have the muffler picked out, the only thing is I need the pipe to run over my axle, so I might have to buy another pipe online and just have it welded in with the rest.
Thanks
-Mike

There may be some decent shops in Rochester i'm not familiar with but if you can't find one there RDFABS is located in Port Byron and they can do pretty much anything custom and have tons of stainless in stock.

I don't even think there's anyone around here that can do a descent exhaust unless all you're looking for is cheap, crush-bent work for a winter-bomb. If you find anything, post it here.

yeah i haven't found any good places locally that can mandrel bend... but any place that does good welding can make something up using pre-bent tubing...

I was about to say check ubrf but apparently that site doesn't exist anymore. ubrf was a car forum in Buffalo.

Someone had mentioned The Muffler Shop II in Fairport, but I'm not sure they do mandrel-bending. The only time I've been there is to do a "stock" replacement on a truck - but they were pretty quick and decently priced.
Otherwise, I think there's Hybrid out in Buffalo.

just buy some pipe and bend it over your knee! :-) jk what diameter pipe are you looking for? i know a shop on east main that a friend works at and he tells me they do custom exhausts regularly. i think its Midas
i don't know what type of bending they do but it can't hurt to try and call em.

Heck, if you're gonna do that, you might as well do the sand, barbecue grill and hammer technique. I remember seeing someone on TV do "mandrel bends" with just that.

It is Midas, it's called crush bending, it is crap and it is a waste of time to call there. Not just because it's crush bending but also because no one there is good enough to do any kind of custom exhaust. Very few shops with a crush bender are even capable of bending up a pipe to patch an OEM exhaust, let alone do custom work. A word to the wise, don't ever go to any muffler shop if you want a decent exhaust.

not for nothing, but if you haven't been to the exact shop how would you know what type of tubing bender they own?
Many shops I've been to own mandrel machines. my advice to the person who started the thread is call around and try your luck. i advised you of that midas location because i know they guarantee lower price match. AND i know a fella that works there who I can hook ya up with...

Cause I have been to that shop. My friends Kevin and Nelson used to work there and my other friend Charlie is a manager. Eat your words, bitch. Kevin and Nelson both left cause they don't pay you worth a damn and anyone with any skill goes somewhere else(actually Nelly gave up mechanics altogether). When you stop in, tell Charlie Cavi Mike said what's up. The fact is my friends have worked at damn near every muffler shop in this county and if you want something other than a 315'er exhaust you need a mandrel bender, nothing any muffler shop around here has to offer. Like I said, it's good for a winter-bomb but not for your good car.
*edit* And don't confuse a crush bender with a mandrel bender. Just because the crush bender uses inter-changeable 'mandrels' doesn't make it a mandrel bender. A mandrel bender draws the pipe around the mandrel, stretching the pipe so it keeps the same inner-diameter. The hydraulic bender at Midas(and everywhere else) just pushes the middle of the bend and CRUSHES it. And just because it doesn't have those ripples in it like pre-bent pipe doesn't mean it's not crush bent.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I actually found an exhaust system with jetex. My problem was the exhaust has to go over the axle so the piping is a pain. I'll post up pic's after I get it.
