I've met Pete and spoken with him before. I'm not judging his character as a person, as I think he's a decent guy... However, I don't think the article was very good, and I also think the Times Union did a poor job of allowing such.

I'm not going to sit here and say I've never exceeded the speed limit, but 160 on slicks in the rain is just pure ignorance and stupidity.

I agree, I hope he achieves his goals, as goals get people through life.

And... There could be a race at the track... If Pete doesn't mind running a toyota tacoma with a SBC drivetrain in it...

The truck begins to slip and slide. His tires have little tread because using slicks improves racing speed. Traction is compromised."
There is obviously a conflict between what he says and what he does.

100mph+ in the rain by other cars on slicks, he is definately risking their lives. obviously you are not in control at that point. i don't understand how the TU played this off as a good thing.

I would also like to point out that.... If this SAME article had someone else's named attached to it, I think the views from the majority of these posters would be the opposite. And I mean that because in other posts on this forum about people racing up and down 87 during the day, etc people shit all over them.

Just because Pete is a good guy, doesn't excuse him from stupidity.

I've known of pete's project with his truck for a while now. Good guy, very warm hearted. Wish I had more time to talk with him, but whenever I've seen him, I've usually been in a rush somewhere.

Dumb idea to speed like that on a public road. No construction zones on road courses or abandoned airfields, but I suppose Times Union had to have some sort of hook to the story and they sure as hell managed to focus on that aspect.

Anyone but Pete would be villified, especially bu you Mike C. Theres a time and place...LOL. Joke
He risks others lives..even alone on a highway at midnight. Any rescue worker who has to pick up the crinckled metal off the road can be hurt or worse, killed, during the process of cleaning up the mess of a mangled truck.

Hmm, doing over a buck swerving in and out of traffic in the pouring rain as the truck skates all over the road. I definitely wouldn't be telling anyone I did that let alone do it with a passenger and sure as hell wouldn't allow someone to put it in a newspaper. I wish him all the luck at the flats but he gets no love from me. Maybe he'll have a wicked spin there that will make him realize what that could have been like on the highway, bouncing off cars, rails and rolling through a ditch. Hopefully.

i think TU might of taken some liberty with some of thosestatements in the story.. i doubt pete would "slip and slip between lanes".... idk about you guys but when i feel a loss of traction i get out of it... i'm sure he did to but that wouldn't of made for a good story

Pete is def a good guy. His truck is a beast. I don't support what was done in the article though (160mph, in slicks, in the rain, down the northway). I wish him luck in the land speed record, but that is going to require a ton of work.
