Why is that so hard to believe? If you search for the Proving Grounds post here there are a couple of 200+mph Evo's in that video alone. There are several others out there. With a bigger turbo and corresponding mods 180 is fairly common on the cars as aerodynamically its been tested to I believe it was 212mph before drag stopped her in her tracks.

170MPH is weaksauce. Supra/3S/NSX (Jap cars of the 90s) went 160MPH+ with 250WHP+ bone stock.
Tires are an issue if you sustain heavy speeds for a duration of time.
