Hehe, I'll try to put this in a nutshell, but there's a ton of things a person should know about them before getting one, including...
They're high maintenance, have specific dietary needs, and need LOTS of attention. They can and will die of lonliness if you don't spend enough time with them, therefore it's recommended/necessary to get two, to keep each other company.
They're nocturnal, mine are only awake from about 11pm - 8am. They're very hyper active and jump/glide all over the place, so they need large cages to play in after you've put them back in the cage and gone to bed. My cage is 5 feet tall, 3 feet wide, 2 feet deep.
They live for up to 15 years, and get no larger than my hand. For size comparison, here's a pic of my full-grown female, and her first baby: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/...s/100_1278.jpg
They are fairly smelly, although not as bad as a ferret. My room smells like a hamster cage. They will pee and poop EVERYWHERE. They cannot be litter-trained, and will pee on people to mark them as their territory.
So if I haven't scared you away, I can direct you to forums/sites where you can get more info and find breeders in the area.

they are cute as hell, but they don't really seem like good pets to me. Keep in cage, nocturnal, attention whores, piss and poop everywhere, smelly, and I'm sure they make some sort of annoying noise, right? And I'm sure I'm missing some things

Eeep! I think that depends on the cat. I've seen pics of people letting their gliders crawl on their cats, but I'd never let my cats near my gliders, they'd eat them in no time.

Well, they do actually make good pets (at least in my opinion). I just had to list the cons so someone doesn't go buy one without realizing what they're getting into. I could also make a list of pros for ya, which may change your mind.
I think they're not like your typical exotic pet, which is a depressed animal that's best left in the wild. These guys are genuinely happy in captivity (because they're spoiled rotten), and if I leave the room for a moment while they're out running around, as soon as I return, they all bolt towards me to check in. They love people.

Noooope.You nailed it.
Just to clarify though-
They DONT pee and poop everywhere. They save it ALL for when they're climbing all over than you.
