Other than just being mad JDM tyte yo, what is the point of using the 1JZ? There's tons of other options that aren't just cheaper but parts are more readily available and most of them are 3.0L, not 2.5. I mean even the Japanese guys know to swap out the 1J, it's too small. The 2J is in everything, GS300, SC300, Supra, what more do you want? The 7M isn't even a bad motor in the first place and at least it's the proper generation so wiring will be a snap. If all you're trying to do is impress a bunch of moron high-schoolers that live their life out of a SuperStreet magazine, well more power to ya. But if you're trying to impress the seat of your pants, 3.0L > 2.5L

the mane advantage is relilability... the 1j is all forged, and metal gasketed, and can be installed into a mk3 with as little as cutting 3 wires. Power potention is simmulat to a 2j, can do upwards of 800whp on stock internals.
2j is nice, just cost alot more you need to by a belhousing , flywheel, custom harness, new oil pan and pump, also a usdm water pump..... it'll cost to 2x the amount for not that much more power.....
and the 7m is not a bad motor, it just dosent handle neglect well, if you baby it and take care of it its fine..... make one mistake your HG could be gone

So I take it you guys have no plans to open these engines up and refresh them before you spend all that time putting it in? That's one thing I'll never understand about the import community. Just because japanese engines are insanely reliable doesn't mean that someone didn't run it out of oil. If I buy an unknown engine, it's getting opened up and freshened up at the very least, if not completely rebuilt, and if I am going to open up an engine, it's going to get good parts right from the start. Every point you made about the 1J, you can apply to any other engine, especially cheaper ones with more displacement.

Nice on finding the parts!
I know when I bought my engine I tore into it to see the condition. Once I knew that I knew how far I needed to go. Plus, its always easier to work on an engine outside the car than in it.

Hahaha, I used to love SuperStreet, I've been on 3 NOPI tours but after F&F came out, I drifted away from the whole scene.

I plan on opening the engine up to have a look.
The reason I didn't go 2J is it is way too expensive, however, maybe some day I might go that route.
Parts for the 1J are readily avaialble and most 2J parts will work on 1J along with a few 7M-GTE parts. Forums own.
So far with the car, engine, tranny, ecu, and wiring harness I am under 2k.
Can't beat that mf'r.... Plus its mad tight.....JDM.....Yo.......For realz.

Thanks mang. I'll try and keep up on the pics.
Someone had the stuff in their garage for a year and didn't follow through with it. I believe they bought it from Japan star, so I will DEF be opening that bad boy up to check it out. He turned it over and it sounds great. I didn't bring my comp tester with be because I didn't know that he was able to crank it.

Those crappy ceramic twins will be the first thing to go. They are cute though.
