the pics make the skid marks look much longer than they were... we weren't going fast because there was a silverado in front of us... thank god.

i got 2 tickets, one a fix it ticket for inadequite equipment for my steering wheel not being on my car, and the other was for failure to keep right which his sargent made him give me. the state cop was really cool and asked me if i was driving to fast, i told him nope, steering wheel came off, gave me the weirdest look in the world and then saw the steering wheel and believed me.

as far as the speeding comment, the road is unposted/55mph. i wasn't even going the speed limit when this happened., as stated, i was behind a silverado who sucessfully took the turn.

I can understand why they still give tickets. The law is still being broken. A car is disrepair is not an excuse for breaking the law.

Does it suck that he got a ticket, sure does and I would be pissed too, but look at it from the point of view of the cops or even other drivers on the road. If he ran into my car because he steering wheel came off wouldn't it still be his fault?

At least no one got hurt and no serious damage occurred; plus its a great story.

failure to stay right is given for almost any incident, someone at my work who got a DUI got a failure to stay right...and he definitely stayed right...he was on the shoulder
